Speakers' Corner returns to Platt Fields on 3rd April - everyone welcome to speak or listen!

Got something to say? Stand up and tell the world - Speakers' Corner is returning to Platt Fields Park!

Every week for over 50 years, people came to the park to lecture, rant, discuss, philosophise, tell poems and argue, or just listen to other people's views. The tradition ended in the 1960's as television took over as the people's provider of opinion and viewpoints.

The Friends of Platt Fields organised a one-off Speakers' Corner last September, which proved very popular with local residents. Many people expressed an interest in making it a regular event again, so we are now bringing Speakers' Corner back on the first Sunday of every month.

The first event is Sunday 3rd March, from 1pm until 4pm, in Platt Fields Park (by the Platt Lane entrance opposite St. Ives Road.)

Anybody is free to getup and talk about something they feel strongly about. Everyone is welcome - and of course you don't need to talk if you don't want to - feel free to come down and listen to other speakers. Soapboxes are provided, and you get up to 15 minutes to speak.

Afterwards we will go to Hardy's Well to plan next month's event, and anyone who is interested is welcome to come along and get involved or give input.

hmmm

posted on 24th March, in some places says event is 3rd March, others it says 3rd April...and not a mention ANYWHERE else on the net, including the Friends of Platt Fields park sites. Doesn't fill you with much confidence that this event will actually take place beyond indymedia with that level of publicity!!

Hardy's Well is a pub if people don't know, just outside the park

Correction....

Yeah you're right that's a silly mistake.. it's obviously on the 3rd APRIL.

We've got a Facebook event with more details:

It's definitely happening, hope to see you there!
