West Yorkshire Zapatistas created on 04/19/10
-
We are a group of people working in solidarity with those people struggling for freedom from the state in Mexico who are known as the Zapatistas. The Zapatista struggle is prevalent in, but not limited to, the Chiapas area in the south of Mexico. Since an uprising in 1996 the Zapatistas have created an autonomous zone and a new way of living. We like to spread information, raise awareness, raise money to send to Zapatista communities and sell their produce such as coffee! The money raised helps to build a clean water system throughout the area for everyone living there.
If you want to get involved please drop us an email at westyorks-chiapas-solidarity@aktivix.orgLatest Update:
26th April 2010: On 6th May at 7.30pm we'll be holding a gig on the Bar floor at the 1in12 Club, Bradford to raise money and awareness about the Zapatista cause. There will be music from some ace live acoustic acts including Alt Track, Sam (the man in red and black), Duncan and Jen plus a wily ignorance of everything to do with the election, hurrah! Free in but donations to the zapatista cause very welcome. (this event is for members and guests of the 1in12 club)
