Tonight the West Yorkshire Chiapas Solidarity Group met at the Treehouse Cafe to discuss how to take action to support the Zapatista struggle.
Since an uprising in 1994 a large group of indiginous people in Mexico have created their own autonomous state and declared war against the Mexican state, although the mvoement has been mainly non-violent and defensive.
In solidarity with this community we met tonight to think about how to spread the word about the Zapatista movement. While listening to some ace zapatista music we planned to make a banner to take on the Bradford Mayday Parade, organise a gig at the 1in12 at the beginning of May and also try to supply coffee produced by Zapatista communities to cafes, food co-ops and individuals in West Yorkshire.
We'll be having another meeting in 2 weeks time to create the banner and make more plans! If you'd like to come along please drop us an email at westyorks-chiapas-solidarity@lists.aktivix.org
