There was heavy policing present as 1,000 students marched through the centre of Manchester in protest over a planned rise in university tuition fees.
The Demonstrators were opposing rising tuition fees, which could triple to £9,000 under government proposals, which many students say they cannot afford.
The demonstration followed national protests last week when thousands of students walked out of lectures.
Students from the city and Salford University took part in the protest
Two were detained on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and others were arrested for public order offences during the march and demonstration to Cathedral Gardens.
