Anarchists find that troubling. “The mainstream recognition of anarchism is chaos and breaking stuff,” says Sara Galindo, sounding exasperated. “We have to redef…

In this article, Paul Marx discusses a paper by Wang and Rong in which cascading failure modes of a power distribution network are explored mathematically. As some of the hardware used in power grids is vulnerable to remote exploits, this opens up all sorts of interesting possibilities for direct action tactics against these technologies of environmental destruction.

Yorkshire Evening Post reports that a man has been charged with "conspiracy to commit aggravated trespass" at a power station following a raid on a school in Notinghamshire. Given that trespass only becomes aggravated after one refuses to leave, it should be hilarious to see how plod will try to make this stick.

Part of the website of the UK parliament has been cracked (hacked into), revealing the administrators' passwords which were stored unencrypted. After the attack was reported to the webmaster, it took over 2 days for them to take the compromised page off-line, which means that everyone who's interested in such things will have had plenty of time to fiddle with the system. Eight days later, the page

an interesting article on open cast coal mining in the UK with a map of open cast coal production. The Guardian's angle on this is that all this new coal mining makes the UK look rather foolish at the UN's Climate Summit in Copenhagen in December.

The national identity card scheme, now being tested on immigrants to the UK, has effectively been defeated. Once it becomes possible to clone an identity like this, there's no way for law enforcement officials to prove that the person carrying a card is a unique individual so the whole house of cards comes down.
