: BBC: Open-cast coalmine development refused
Tagged as: environmentalism winThe public enquiry into a proposed open-cast coal mine near Fairburn Ings nature reserve in Yorkshire has concluded with the secretary of state issuing a decision today that the mine will not be permitted to go ahead.
Leeds city council planning department had already said 'no' to the proposed development, which would have seen irreversable damage to a nature reserve in order to keep nearby power stations running for about one day.
