Peace be with you,
As many of you will know, in 2001 Bradford experienced what the media came to coin as 'race riots.' The National Front, the leading British fascism organisation at the time entered the city in order to create division, hatred and voilence. The people of Bradford stood up and said no... But the response of the police, local and national authorities let us down once again.
The riots became a global talking point, and while innocent residents of Bradford and disproportionately charged activists suffered the consequences, the city was not given the oppurtunity to speak for itself, and repair itself accordingly.
Bradford has a reputation for not knowing enogh about itself to help itself.
What rubbish.
The ethics, the pragmatism, the hope, the activism and the honest simplicity that are a key part of our everyday lives need to be utilised further.
The English Defence League, a branch organisation of the British National Party, the National Front's kinder, have announced plans to come demonstrate in the city. The EDL were created to add pressure to this year's elections, and divide the masses of British people who live in harmony and appreciation of different races and religions. Their tactics are violent, hate filled and unjustified.
It is the duty of us as the people to come together to say no, and talk about where we go from here and where we have come since 2001.
We look forward to seeing you there.
