December will mark the 1st anniversary of the brutal attack on the population of Gaza. Since then the inhabitants of Gaza have remained under siege and numerous bombings of supply tunnels have taken place, under the pretence that they are used for weapons and not vital supplies of food and medicines. the city of Gaza has now been under siege for almost 3 years, the citizens have been exposed to repeated military invasion, chemical warfare and other atrocities.
***THE MISSION***
We plan to enter various stores in the city, flashmob style, that sell Israeli produce. Once in there we shall fill our trollies with goods from Israel. We will have people with megaphones telling shoppers what we are doing and why, there will even be amended Christmas Carols to sing. Stewards will advise us when it is time to move on to the next place on our secret list.
We have had some very fetching t shirts printed with the "Israel: Off Your Trolley" logo on. They are £8 each (solidarity price) and will be available from the organisers on the day of the event.
***THE AIM***
To raise awareness of the need to boycott Israeli goods (as we did to help end South African apartheid) among consumers about the consequences of buying Israeli goods and services.
Pressurise supermarkets and shops into removing goods with barcode 729 - denoting Israeli origin - from their shelves.
Encourage companies who make use of Israeli technology and components to find alternatives and join the boycott.
Focus the attention of the world on Israeli occupation and apartheid and expose those who bankroll the Israeli regime; and
To foster an environment in which it is unacceptable to promote Zionist policies.
This will add weight to the demand for Israel to:
1. End its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantle the Wall;
2. Recognize the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and
3. Respect, protect and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.
***WHY BOYCOTT***
Palestine has been carved up by the apartheid wall and numerous strategically placed Israeli settlements. The people of Palestine are being denied their basic human rights, Israel has flouted UN resolutions and the demands of various organisations, worldwide.
The Palestinian people are experiencing their 42nd year of military occupation. The siege by the Israeli army and the economic blockade has devastated their daily lives so that 'normal' life is impossible.
Israel operates an entrenched system of racial Apartheid against its own non-Jewish inhabitants and has been illegally occupying Palestinian land in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights since 1967. It has sought to further annex these lands and has systematically transferred its own civilian population into these occupied territories in contravention of international law. Israel continues to build the illegal Apartheid wall, annexing vast swathes of Palestinian land in the West Bank and creating Palestinian ghettos, despite the ruling of the International Court of Justice that it is illegal.
180 Palestinian organisations and unions, in response to Israeli onslaught, have called for a campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Apartheid Israel
