Libertarias Certificate 15

Director: Vicente Aranda, Spain 1996

.
Doors open at 7pm. £3.50/£3 concessions. Licensed bar.

A rare opportunity to see this highly original Spanish film about the Spanish revolution of 1936. Libertarias tells the story of young nun Maria who falls in with a disparate group of women in very first days of the uprising. They throw themselves into the war against a brutal fascist enemy, but are soon battling against attitudes on their own side as the revolution begins to falter. Libertarias tells how passion, humour and friendship proved to be their most important weapons in one of the most inspiring and tragic moments in European history.

Libertarias is the last film of our current season. Shipley Film Society will be back in the Autumn.
