Wednesday 25th May, 7:30, Daydreaming Archivist: Police Protest and the social Contract, £5/£3.50
To what extent are protests and disturbances of public order merely the acting out of a ritual by three sides - the mob, the media and the forces of order? How do the three parties accidentally collude to undermine the chance of any real change? Does this ritual serve or undermine the expression of democracy? This screening which hopefully avoids propaganda, provides food for thought on these and other questions by presenting a multiplicity of views and formats including news, instructional films and police gathered documentary. Anyone who is interested or involved in direct action ought to find something inspiring in this selection. This stuff would be essential viewing in only for the 1968 classic World in Action documentary about the Grosvenor Square riots. Hopefully we will be able to have a good group conversation afterwards too.
