IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT

(BUT WE CAN WORK IT OUT)

An exciting environmental information event to be held in October will feature A Time Comes, a short film by internationally acclaimed director Nick Broomfield[1], inspirational speakers, information and displays and a chance to meet and chat with local volunteers.

Leeds Greenpeace are showcasing the work of Greenpeace active supporters at the ‘End of the World/We Can Work it Out' event,  the national and international campaigns they take part in from petition signing, or meeting and talking to MPs locally to doing public tours of the Rainbow Warrior and being orang-utans!

The inspirational event will be hosted at The Carriageworks Theatre[2], Leeds at 7.00- 9.00pm on Thursday 15 October. Anyone who might want to get a feel for the work of Greenpeace and how they can get involved locally is warmly invited to attend.

A Time Comes is a 20 minute film celebrating the spirit of nonviolent direct action. It tells the story of the six people who scaled the 220m chimney at Kingsnorth coal-fired power station in Kent in 2007 and the landmark case that they won.

Regional Greenpeace activists, Chris Mackins and Jo Melzack, will tell the story of their roles at the Kingsnorth action and there will be time for questions and discussion about nonviolent direct action and whether, when there have to be 40% cuts to global CO2 emissions by 2020, new coal fired power stations should be built.

Leeds Greenpeace Coordinator Ian Smith said, "We aim to inspire people to help with all the work we are doing with Greenpeace to stop runaway climate change. We don't all have to climb chimneys to take action; there are plenty of things to do on the ground".
