Egypt's people faced violence on the city streets until they forced President Mubarak out. His 30-year rule was propped up by western military aid. France and Germany suspended weapons sales to Egypt in response to the handling of protests, but the UK refused to make such a commitment. This isn't a one-off mistake. In fact, the UK government has named undemocratic regimes including Libya, Saudi Arabia and Algeria as "key markets" for weapons sales.
In 2011, it's time to take action to show "This is not OK". Come along to one of our Spring Gatherings to find out how:
The gatherings are free! And we will provide teas and coffees and a vegetarian lunch.
What? The days will be a great opportunity to build links to other campaigners and pick up fresh ideas and information for our campaign to end the arms trade.
Sessions will focus on our new campaign "This is not OK" and our work to end DSEi, the huge arms fair planned to take place in September. They will cover: Examples of the impact of British weapons sales; Tackling the arms companies' spin; How to take on local arms producers and more! We'll wrap up with an open session, so come prepared with questions you'd like to pose to other campaigners in the region!
