This talk will take a critical look at The Spirit Level, a recent book by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett. This argues that the greater the level of inequality in a country, the more social problems there will be (eg less social mobility, higher rates of infant mortality). We will look at what such claims tell us about capitalism, and at the alternative 'employee-run' capitalism that the authors advocate.
