A group of 30 protesters met in Banstead park, Harehills, their ranks swelled by batman and the baby in the batmobile marched down to meet up with 40 waiting protesters from chapeltown. with banners of 'chapeltown against fascism' and 'harehills against fascism' and with a good number of children and friendly faces, they walked into town escorted by police the whole way. they didn't meet up with the massive group of protestors from woodhouse who were in their hundreds. the woodhouse lot were stopped when they reached the headrow, and baited by three youths. Previously a cop confiscated an anti fascism banner, and was followed by a legal observer who asked his number and videod him. UAF tried to goi down the headrow towards the bus station. the police stopped them, and there was a stand off for a couple of minutes until they turned right towards the art gallery, where hundreds more anti fascist protestors waited.
meanwhile, groups lurked the streets, and police directed burly white generally skinhead males towards yates's on boar lane. this is where the group of chapeltown and harehills uaf almost met the edf. shouting and abuse from the edl lot as one of the women from uaf shouted at the cops for allowing the uaf to get so dangerously close and quickly herded uaf protestors back up boar lane then briggate, leaving the edl to shout 'england til i die' and 'edl edl', with a red flag of ulster flying. there were over 150 of them.
meanwhile, it's business as usual as shoppers and protesters look suspiciously at each other dodging through the pedestrianised streets, and the police helicopter flies low.
Northern Monkey Nuts!
When the Harehills and Chapeltown march passed the Northern Monkey pub on the Headrow, skinheaded EDL nazi bozos made several Hitler salutes.
Possibly the Northern Monkey is a place to avoid if it attracts a far right audience.
