New animal circus tours coming to UK

Following the publicity about Bobby Roberts Circus having a live elephant as part of its act (no longer) this has attracted three circuses to come from overseas and tour in the UK for the first time.  Yorkshire will see the Polish State Circus which will include two elephants, three lions, many horses and a tiger.  Dates are so far agreed as August 14 to Sept 9th at 15 Bridge St Otley West Yorkshire, the site of the Otley Show.  The German "Circus of Dreams" which includes an elephant, dogs, horses and donkeys will be at Bridge, in Pool-in-Wharfedale between September 1st and 7th  

Please join the protests and help make sure these people do not come back to the UK.

i thought there had been legislation passed that was banning the use of animals in circus's? perhaps its not come into play yet and these sick bastards are having one last tour of torture. any info?

It seems the publicity over Robert's circus and the campaign backfired in a way that was not anticipated. Most people in the UK assumed that animals were no longer allowed in circus but the fuss about Robert's caused a large number of people to try and book exactly because there were animals. On the back of this demand a number of European circus' (where animal use is still common) realised that there was sufficient interest to justify the investment in coming to the UK and they have set up a number of tours. As well as those mentioned above we are aware that the Moscow State Circus will bring Siberian tigers on their visit this year after leaving them at home for the past ten years and the German "Hi Life Circus" will also bring elephants to the UK in a 10 hour drive from Bremen via the port of Dover.

Aside from the demos that need to take place to block all these circus' and make them uneconomic we need to deal with the educational issue of the general public. They are wanting to see live animals 'performing' and we need to explain why they are wrong. If need be this is an issue of such importance we may need to ensure live animal performances do not take place regardless of the views of the public.

Manchester Vegan group working with concerned individuals in Yorkshire are planning a demo for Friday 26th of August and Saturday 27th of August at the Otley Show Grounds located at 15 Bridge Street, Otley West Yorkshire. We have chosen these dates as they are expected to be the busiest of the tour for the circus. There is a piece of land directly outside where a sympathetic landowner has given his blessing for us to use. There will be banners available as well as flyers to give out but we do need PEOPLE. Please meet at 7.30 near the "STOP THE CRUEL CIRCUS" banner.

We would ask that companion animals such as dogs are left at home.
