Today the working class are in the same position we've always been in; the wrong end of a repressive and exploitative economic system. The poor are the ones hit the hardest by the current recession, as usual. Instead of bailing out the banks, money should be invested in our public welfare, health and education system.
Sunderland Welfare Action Group are a grassroots organisation of community and political activists focused on fighting welfare cuts, improving the welfare service in our local community and generally defending the working class people against persistent attacks on us. We also aim to link up with other similar groups on a national and regional level, so we can have more power in numbers and learn from each others experiences.
We believe that by acting as a collective based on principles of solidarity among unemployed, too sick to work, lone parents, others on low wages and those in more stable conditions, we can achieve our demands.
We also want to help people on an individual basis where possible by giving advice and help through direct action, or pointing people towards resources and other organisations where they get the required advice and help.
